NEWARK, NJ—Ironside Newark—a transformative 21st century workplace at the heart of Newark’s revitalized downtown—has achieved a Wired Certified Platinum designation for its progressive building technology.
Evaluated by WiredScore, a rating system for technological capacity in commercial buildings, Ironside Newark is the first redevelopment project in New Jersey to earn the coveted certification based on its superior connectivity, technological infrastructure and readiness to adopt emerging technologies.
Edison Properties, the privately owned real estate holding and development company that is developing Ironside Newark, pursued Wired Certification for the building, which will include both modern loft-style office space and street-level retail. The building was evaluated by a team of leading technicians who conducted a comprehensive on-site audit, evaluating the number of available Internet service providers, infrastructure redundancy, connection access points, and readiness to improve connectivity. The Wired Certification level was assigned based on the official standards developed by WiredScore and its advisory board.
Ironside Newark has access to an unrivaled network of fiber optic cable that runs beneath Newark’s streets – a unique feature that makes the building an ideal setting for tenants with technology-driven needs.
“We are thrilled to have Ironside Newark recognized as the first redevelopment project to earn WiredScore Certification. This designation clearly communicates the unique technological advantages that tenants will benefit from at our building,” says Michael Sommer, Edison Properties’ executive vice president of development. “Combined with Ironside’s location amid a thriving urban landscape and the Northeast’s largest mass transit hub, this represents a key piece in our vision to transform this vacant warehouse into a state-of-the-art commercial and retail destination.”
The Wired Certified Platinum designation denotes the building’s highly-advanced technological infrastructure, including fixed wireless, multiple fiber providers and points of entry, spare riser capacity, and distributed antenna systems which indicate resilient Internet connectivity.
The Wired Certification standard evaluates and distinguishes best-in-class Internet connectivity in commercial buildings. Its seal signifies that buildings have been independently evaluated and guaranteed to provide Internet infrastructure that today’s businesses require to thrive.
“Platinum Wired Certification is offered only to office buildings that offer the highest-quality tech infrastructure available in today’s market. Ironside Newark is transforming a former industrial warehouse into a tech-friendly office destination and that’s a remarkable accomplishment,” says Arie Barendrecht, founder and CEO of WiredScore. “Edison Properties’ pursuit of Wired Certification reflects their commitment to providing access to top-tier connectivity to its future tenants, and places them in select company among office properties around the country.”
Construction is continuing on Ironside Newark, with an opening slated for fall 2018.
